NORTHUMBRIA UNIVERSITY

Northumbria University is best known for its highly rated, practical courses and research programmes. Students of the University also enjoy excellent facilities, a great social life and affordable tuition and living costs.
Northumbria is a modern, government recognised university with strong industrial and professional connections in the UK and around the world. Its most famous Honorary Graduate is the Rt Hon Tony Blair MP, the British Prime Minister. Northumbria is one of the largest universities in Britain, with a full-time enrolment of over 14,000, including 2,000 international students. The courses offered are designed to prepare students for career success. Many Northumbria graduates have become leaders in their profession.

Official Recognition
Northumbria is listed in the "First Division" of British Universities in the Daily Telegraph's university league table (2001). In official assessments carried out by the UK's Quality Assurance Agency, the University has been judged "excellent" (or awarded at least 22 points out of 24) in most subject areas. In
fact there are no subjects which have been rated lower than 20 points out of 24. Many of the University's degrees are also recognised by professional bodies in the UK.

Work Placements and International Exchange
Several courses offer opportunities to gain valuable work experience. The University's strong international links also mean that many students have the opportunity to spend one or two semesters studying in another European country, the USA or Australia.

A Great Place to Be
The largest campus is based in the centre of Newcastle, a popular university city. Known as the capital of England's North East, Newcastle has a dramatic location on the river Tyne near the east coast and it lies at the heart of one of Britain's most beautiful and historic regions. London is only 3 hours away by train, Edinburgh 1.5 hours. Newcastle is an ideal place for students, with its low cost of living, lively atmosphere and friendly people. It is also known
for its great social life and has a busy calendar of entertainments, arts and musical events. Not surprisingly, Newcastle was placed among the World's Top Ten "Party Cities" in a recent international survey. There are three other campuses - two around Newcastle and one in the historic city of Carlisle. Each campus has its own library, IT, accommodation, sport and leisure facilities.

English Language
A range of English language courses offers expert tuition in a friendly campus environment. Courses are offered for different levels of ability and some are intended for students preparing for academic study. Popular courses include General English, Spring School and the Summer School. In addition, the undergraduate and postgraduate Foundation Courses allow you to start in either February or September.

A Caring Environment
Northumbria has a long tradition of welcoming international students and a special effort is made to support you in your studies. There is a good choice of accommodation and a wide range of free facilities and specialist services you can use, such as our meet and greet service, our induction programme, in-sessional English language tuition and support with study skills. There is also an International Student Adviser who is there to help throughout your time at the University.

The main accommodation options are halls of residence with some meals provided or selfcatering flats. All University accommodation is either on campus or a short distance away.
